Other than that, if you get a character you really like/want then you can stick with them and only them. It takes 200, 400 or 600 of those to unlock a specific hero (values depending on the hero) or 175 for a random box which may or may not include a hero you already own. 1 eternity splinter drops about every 8 minutes against enemies your level range. If you want all the characters and don't want to pay real money then you'll be in for a very long grind.
